Program Structure

  • The doctoral program requires at least 12 ECTS credits of coursework and professional preparation, in addition to the dissertation and defense.
  • The doctoral program is designed to be completed in 4 years. The doctoral candidate must be enrolled at FUS for the entire duration of their doctoral program.
  • At the start of the program, the doctoral student and committee sign a Ph.D. Agreement outlining the following:
    • Committee composition
    • Dissertation subject, language, and format (monograph or cumulative)
    • Coursework plan and milestones
    • Timelines and deadlines
    • Supervision scope
    • IP and data rights
  • The completed Ph.D. Agreement is filed with the Program Director.
  • The Ph.D. Agreement is updated annually and can be amended by mutual consent, and an updated copy provided to the Program Director.
  • The Program may include a qualifying examination if specified in the Ph.D. Agreement. The content and form of this exam must be approved by the Doctoral Committee.
