Accelerated Pathway Three Plus One Bachelor's and Master's Degrees
A 3+1 Accelerated Pathway is a structured accelerated track that allows undergraduates to complete the bulk of their bachelor’s degree in three years and begin graduate-level coursework in their fourth year. See specific program: Social Justice and Sustainability (SJS) major
Students should announce to their academic advisor their intention to enter a 3+1 Accelerated Pathway at first semester registration. Students intending to take the pathway should note that they need to take 16 credits in their first semester. An early announcement is advised since students should take 16 credits per semester (five 3-credit courses and one 1-credit course) and an additional 3 credits during the J-term or May/Summer sessions for a total of 35 credits per academic year.

Before the end of Year 3, a student should contact the Admissions Office to apply for the corresponding master’s program. Students must be on track to successfully complete all degree requirements, earn a minimum of 105 of the 120 required bachelor’s credits, including a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2. With the approval of the Graduate Admission Committee and the Student Academic Success Committee a student begins their master’s coursework in the Fall of Year 4. These 15 graduate credits are double-counted toward the bachelor’s degree as elective credits. At the end of the Fall semester, a student will be on track to complete their bachelor degree requirements. A student then completes the remaining 30 master’s credits in the Spring and Summer of Year 4 to finish the master’s degree.
Students following a 3+1 Accelerated Pathway are expected to meet the requirements above and only those students enrolled in a specific 3+1 Accelerated Pathway will be able to complete it. Students can opt-out of the 3+1 Accelerated Pathway at any point prior to the application for the master’s program at the end of Year 3. Students who are not admitted to the master’s may complete the requirements for the bachelor’s degree only (i.e. the remaining 15 credits).
