SJS 202 Thinking across Disciplines
This course introduces students to interdisciplinarity through the analysis of a single socio-environmental case study (e.g., on the topic of climate migration, urban inequality or environmental justice). Rather than covering multiple theoretical frameworks, the course focuses on how three different areas of study—environmental humanities, environmental studies, and politics —approach the same problem. Students analyze the same case study through different disciplinary perspectives.
Students compare how each discipline frames the issue, what kind of evidence it uses, and what kinds of solutions are proposed. The course culminates in a short interdisciplinary analysis in which students integrate these perspectives into a coherent understanding of the case and assess the interconnected knowledge produced through interdisciplinarity.
