PSY 495 Advanced Research Methods for Psychology
This course is designed for students preparing to undertake their senior capstone project or thesis. It provides an in-depth exploration of advanced research methods across quantitative (e.g., surveys, statistical modeling), qualitative (e.g., interviews, thematic analysis), and mixed-methods approaches (e.g., convergent design, exploratory sequential design). Students will develop skills in data visualization, systematic presentation and reporting of research findings in line with scientific standards, and effective communication tailored to the conventions of their disciplines. Throughout the semester, students will also develop a detailed research proposal that will serve as the foundation for their thesis or capstone projects. At last, but not least, this course will include a practical fieldwork component allowing students to apply research methods in real-world contexts. By fostering an interdisciplinary approach, this course aligns with Franklin’s commitment to bridging conceptual and practical divides between disciplines. It will serve as a prerequisite for
PSY 496 and
PSY 497, preparing students for their culminating academic projects.
