HIS 212 Weapons of Mass Destruction
Through the violent and chaotic twentieth century, new technologies of destruction which threatened unprecedented levels of violence and lethality were developed. These technologies; chemical and biological weapons, strategic bombing, and, most significantly, nuclear weapons, had deep and enduring impacts on the conduct of international affairs as well as on societies and cultures. This course examines these impacts and how they revolutionized warfare and diplomacy and engendered grass-roots peace, anti-nuclear, and environmental movements.
In addition, students are also introduced to the fundamentals of historiography and historical methods which enable students to develop their research, critical analysis, and writing skills. (
