Advanced Standing

A student may be granted Advanced Standing at Franklin for college or university-level study successfully completed in secondary school. The applicability of credits towards major requirements is determined by the Registrar in consultation with relevant Division Chairs. 

 

It is possible to receive up to a maximum of 30 credits towards the B.A. or B.S. degree, or a maximum of 15 credits towards the A.A. degree, through Advanced Standing.

 

Advanced Standing credits may be awarded for:

  • Advanced Placement examinations of the College Board:
    • three to six credits for scores of 4 or 5.
  • Dual Enrollment:
    • for college or university courses taken by high school students on the campus of a regionally accredited college or university, credits for grades of C or better.
  • International Baccalaureate:
    • six credits for each higher level (HL) with grades of 5 or above;
    • three credits for each standard level (SL) with grades 5 or above;
    • three additional elective credits for successful completion of the International Baccalaureate diploma.
  • Continental European Certificates: German Abitur, Swiss Matura, Italian Maturità and similar qualifications
    • credits for a passing grade in each principal examination.
  • French Baccalaureate:
    • six credits for coefficients of 4 and above and minimum scores of 10.
  • British A-levels:
    • nine credits for A-levels with grades of A*, A, B or C;
    • three credits for AS levels with grades of A*, A, B, or C;
    • three credits for an Extended Project Qualification with grades of A*, A, B or C.
  • Other non-US institutions: credit to be determined by individual transcript evaluation.

The University reserves the right not to accept Advanced Standing credit or transfer credit when official documentation sent directly from the examination agency or transfer institution to the University has not been received within a year of the student’s matriculation at Franklin.

All documents and credentials are submitted with the understanding that they become a permanent part of the student’s academic record and the property of Franklin University Switzerland.
